HYBRID MACAWS

Stunning is a word most people use to describe hybrid macaws. Cross-breeding a macaw with another different species of macaw produces hybrids. Hybrids have characteristics of both the parents', though the appearance seems to be influenced more by the male's genes than the female’s. Every macaw, as do people, have their own personality. But hybrids can be influenced by either of their parents’ personality or a combination of both. Many aviculturists frown upon this practice as they feel that it is detrimental to the purity of the parrot’s bloodlines.

HARLEQUIN
The Harlequin macaws are some of the most beautiful and well behaved of all the hybrid macaws. The Harlequin macaws are a cross between a Blue and Gold macaw and a Green-winged macaw which makes for a very affectionate, energetic, and captivating parrot. Both parents of the Harlequin macaw also contribute to the striking colors of their offspring.

CATALINA
The Catalina macaw is a very colorful parrot. It is a cross between a Blue & Gold macaw and a Scarlet macaw. The first generation Catalina coloration is dominated by the Blue & Gold half of the mix, but with brilliant orange contour feathers where previously there were yellow and variations of greens, blues & hints of yellow on the upper coverts & center tail feathers

CAPRI
A third generation macaw, the Capri macaw has lots of Scarlet macaw in its parentage. It is a hybrid cross between a Camelot macaw and a Scarlet macaw. The Capri macaw inherits all that beautiful coloring. The personality of a Capri may need good socialization, through training, from the Scarlet side of its bloodline. It also may have some of the gentle nature and the speaking ability of the Blue and Gold macaw mixed in.

CAMELOT
A cross between the Catalina macaw hybrid and Scarlet macaw, the Camelot macaws are among the most colorful of the macaws. Their beautiful red color comes from the Scarlet macaw parent.

CALICO
The colorful Calico macaw is a cross between a Military macaw and a Green-winged macaw. Both parents of the Calico macaw contribute to the striking colors of their offspring. These macaws have a green back with a bronze cast similar to the Military macaw and a deep red chest and belly.

RUBY
Ruby macaws , a cross between a Scarlet macaw and a Green-winged macaw, are beautifully striking and are one of the most colorful of the macaws. Often times the overall coloration of the Ruby macaw can be very similar to the Green-winged macaw and they are often mistaken for a Green-winged macaw. Coloration varies even in babies from the same clutch.
If the male parent is a Green-winged macaw, the offspring will generally have the same size body and head as the father. What distinguises the Ruby from the Green-winged father is the center band of feathers. These feathers can be a blend of varying amounts of yellows and oranges and they may be edged with different shades of yellows and oranges.

SHAMROCK
Shamrock macaws are a very colorful hybrid macaw. A Shamrock macaw is a cross between a Military and a Scarlet macaw.

HARLEQUIN X SHAMROCK
This hybrid macaw, the Harlequin x Shamrock macaw, is rarer than most other hybrid macaws. Being a cross between a two different species of hybrid, a Harlequin and a Shamrock, gives this macaw a lot of varying influences both in color and personality. It has the genes of four different species of macaws; a Blue and Gold, a Green-winged, a Military and a Scarlet.

MILIGOLD
Miligold macaws, a cross between a Blue and Gold macaw and a Military macaw, have a very lovely coloration. Some of the characteristics seen in this parrot are the blues of the Blue and Gold which is seen on the Miligold as a green aquamarine, with the outer wings retaining blue flight feathers. The head can resemble the coloring of the Blue and Gold, though with more greens. It may also have the red lore on the face of the Military macaw. 

MILICINTH
The beautiful Milicinth macaw is a cross between the grand Hyacinth macaw and the striking Military macaw. This gives the Milicinth macaw a very opulent and unusual They are an inquisitive and outgoing bird when well established and comfortable in their home and surroundings.

JUBILEE
The Jubilee macaws are a cross between a Harlequin macaw and a Green-winged macaw. The Harlequin macaw (with a Blue and Gold macaw and a Green-winged macaw for parents) you have a macaw that is a real beauty and good natured.

MAUI SUNSET
Being a hybrid cross between a Blue and Gold macaw and a Red-fronted macaw, the maui sunset macaw will have unique influences both in color and in personality. Hybrids have been traditionally bred for color. So being able to attribute personality traits to a hybrid are factors that are quite unknown. The playful Blue and Gold however, is one of the better talkers of the macaws. The smaller red-fronted macaw is quite docile and affectionate, but is also known to be quite loud.
